The Monkey King was born from a mystical stone atop the Mountain of Flowers and Fruit. He trained there until his chi became like fire, and word of his disobedience and unruliness spread throughout the Middle Kingdom. He interrupted the Jade Empress's peach festival atop five elements mountain where they were drinking the elixir of immortality. The Jade Emperor was impressed with the skill and chi of the Monkey King, thinking him just a bit unrefined, and asked the Jade Warlord to give him a position before leaving to go on his 500 years meditation. Rather than obey the Jade Emperor, the Jade Warlord gave the Monkey King a martial challenge to see who had the best kung fu. During the duel, when he seemed to be losing, the Jade Warlord changed the rules to no weapons or chi majic, only hand to hand combat claiming that without his staff the Monkey King is merely a commoner. When the Monkey King dropped his staff to fight, the Jade Warlord cheated and used his magic to turn the Monkey King to stone. Before he turned, he cast his staff out into the Middle Kingdom. He waited 500 years while a clone made from a hair on his head using chi magic known only as the Silent Monk and disguised as a Buddhist priest searched for the seeker (the man who would return the staff to the Monkey King). The staff was returned in accordance with the prophecy and he resumed his battle with the Jade Warlord. The battle was ended by the seeker, who stabbed him with a companion's jade dart that could kill any mortal. He was rewarded and sent on his journey West when the Jade Emperor returned from his meditation. |
| The version of the Monkey King that is played here is based on the Forbidden Kingdom version and bits of pieces of the Chinese myths that the Journey to the West was based on than that novel, including excerpts from the Beijing Opera and the folktales that were referenced to write the Journey to the West. The Monkey King portrayed by this rp journal is an Immortal that was born of stone and raised by a monkey family. After declaring himself the Monkey King once he figured out he was smarter than the other monkeys, he went on a quest to better himself, and was accepted by the Daoist master, Suhbhuti. Suhbhuti found him so unruly that once his training was complete, he had the feeling he was going to cause trouble and made him promise that he'd never reveal who trained him to any mortals. Unlike in Journey to the West, the Monkey King is actually well-liked by the Jade Emperor. He has no iron crown that controls his behavior and he didn't personally offend Buddha, who was the one who condemned him to stone in the novel (though he does acknowledge Buddha as his sole superior). He knows neither Pigsy (Zhu Bajie) nor Sandy (Sha Wujing), because while the Forbidden Kingdom acknowledged there was a Journey to the West that followed the movie, the canon point that I brought him in on is before that. For H&M purposes, he also contributed to Xena's training during her travels East, and is aware that other gods and immortals exist in other places. He is also Hercules's roommate. | As confirmed by Jet Li and the director commentary on the DVD, the Monkey King in the Forbidden Kingdom has the same abilities as the Monkey King in Journey to the West. I'll go into a few of them here. Shapeshifting: The Monkey King has 72 earthly transformations. This includes the ability to change into people he sees, a monk, and even a temple. It would practically take another god or diefied being to see through these, or someone experienced with Immortal type energy might sense something off about an illusion. An average or slightly above average human could not. He can also transform objects into other objects by chanting a spell and spitting his own blood on the object. He also can multiply his head and hands so that he has three heads and six arms. Hairs: The Monkey King can pull out his hair and create objects and clones of himself. These clones would register as completely human. They're mortal, and more like minions than actual clones. He's mentally connected with them, so if you do something to a clone he will know about it. He's not connected to the objects he makes, though, and once they have served their purpose they return to being a hair. Ruyi Jingu Bang: The Monkey King will always have absolute control over the Golden Wishing Staff. He controls its size, strength, and movement, even when he's not holding it. When he doesn't appear to have it, it's usually the size of a pin and resting behind his ear. He can seperate it into many staffs or a segmented staff. Penetrating Gaze: The Monkey King can see good and evil nature in an individual. If something is hiding a demon, there is a very strong likelihood he would be able to see it. He couldn't read its mind, but he could identify that there was a demon inside of it, or if someone was prone to lying or unusually cruel. Somersault: He can hop on clouds through somersaulting to travel. Body Freezing Spell: A spell that with a single syllable and a point of his finger, can freeze a weaker, mortal oponent. Protective Circle: Using his rod, he can creat a protective circle on the ground that can only be broken by someone exiting the circle. Weaknesses: He's strong, but he can be contained. It takes an incredible force, though. He's practically indestructable, and containment is the only way to stop him. He also, as previously stated, can't read minds; but his own thoughts are so erratic and filled with the thoughts of his clones, they might be difficult to follow.
